I know our world has become increasingly casual yet in many spaces particularly in the global market place tradition and formality remain sacred. When you are meeting or communicating with an interviewer, recruiter, potential boss or professional associate for the first time address them with the salutation Mr. or Ms. followed by their last name until you are instructed to do otherwise. During your initial contact it may be considered inappropriate to address these individuals by their first name. Using a formal greeting demonstrates your knowledge of social and business etiquette; it also extends deference to parties that you hope will be influential in helping you secure your next best opportunity. How can that be a bad thing?
