Keep a File….On Yourself

Every employer has a HR file on each of their employees so I often  encourage workers to keep a file on themselves.  Each accolade, certificate, performance appraisal  and thank you  note should be included.  It’s important for you to  maintain updated written record on your job performance particularly if it highlights  positive feedback on the contributions you’ve made to the organization.  Keeping your own personnel file is also a useful point of reference when requesting a promotion or  seeking new opportunity outside of the firm. It may be  a great resource for assessing  the progress or lack thereof that you have made  in a particular area.  Plus, on those days when your ego needs a boost, reviewing notes of gratitude or letters of praise can  lift your spirits by reminding you of  your contributions or how you add value to the organization.
